The Prison Angel
Mary Clark grew up in Beverly Hills. She was living in Los Angeles when she decided to help the prisoners in La Mesa Prison in Tijuana. Using the name Mother Antonia, she was greatly beloved by the people she serves.
Like the prisoners, Mother Antonia lived in a cell with only a cold shower.
She arranged services for prison inmates, including dental work and even cosmetic reconstruction. She had the ability to get other people to donate soap, food, and other necessities.
Once, during a prison riot, all the electricity in the prison was cut off. Mother Antonia persuaded the prison administrators to let her go into the prison. As she walked down the dark halls, prisoners gathered around her to protect her, and the rioting stopped.
After many years of service, she was allowed to set up a religious order. While most orders accept only young novices, Mother Antonia accepted novices over 45 who wished to take on a life of service, as she had done.
A stunning testimonial to the power of one.
